Aesthetically it has a purple red color. The scent is intense, fruity with spicy aromas. The taste is complete and soft with a soft tannin too and some red fruit flavors.

Raspberry notes flit from the glass, then the palate follows with zesty, appetizing lemon flavors and creates a perfect picture of summer-berried freshness and easy, enjoyable lightness. There is a backbone of fresh acidity that makes this a classy winner with and without food. The finish is clean and hints of ripe cherry.

A vivid perfume of spice cake, candied cherries, cranberry and pine bough runs through every vintage – not merely a very pleasing flavor profile, but a signifier that the vineyard indeed has a unique voice. To amplify the voice, we add a small [and growing] percentage of clusters that are picked in small picking boxes and rested for 10ish days in George’s barn.

Very light on the nose, this bottling from 37-year-old vines shows squeezed lemon wedge, chilled Asian pear, hints of jicama and white rose petals on the nose. The citrusy palate is driven by a grapefruit pith flavor and enhanced with a touch of chalk. The texture is compellingly grippy.

Prismatically perfumed, yet gently firm, it lifts us up, and invites another glass. Like the carignane at its core, with its beastly reputation for high acidity, high tannin, and high yield like some six-headed, man-eating, 300-foot long red sea serpent, when mellowed and moderated after ninety years, its underlying Birichino nature is revealed in a bright, pulsing whirlpool of refreshment and red fruits.

The Zin grapes come from a vineyard planted in 1922 at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Has the body and acidity quite like a medium bodies Pinot Noir. Bright nose of red fruits and orange citrus with green tea and white pepper. Taste summer raspberries on the vine, dark strawberry, dried ginger and violets. This is super-pretty, great at the dinner table, and not what most expect from an old-vine Zin as it’s brighter and relatively restrained compared to most.

Central Coast. This is a lovely Pinot Noir site just below the elevation for The Santa Cruz AVA. The nose shows soft red cherry with light minerals and a kiss of spice. The palate is light bodied with good acid and a flavor set of present cherry fruit with cola, spice, and sweet oak. Delicious for its price!

Made using careful temperature regulation in order to preserve delicacy and freshness, the wine is bottled with just two grams per liter of residual sugar—a refreshingly bone-dry offering that stands in sharp contrast to its many cloying peers. Clean, bright, and refreshing, it presents notes of acacia honey, white flowers, crunchy green apples, and tart nectarines atop a subtly mineral underlay.
