Her Barbera and Dolcetto come from sections of San Lorenzo and Rué, respectively, that are less suitable for Nebbiolo. Dolcetto is also planted in Monrobiolo di Bussia, also in the commune of Barolo. The Barbera and Dolcetto are both classic examples—vibrant, juicy and utterly Piemontese.
This wine has a beautiful dark color, a powerful and wild nose that combines notes of liquorice, spices and black fruits.
Les Granges is the kind of Chinon you don’t need to think twice about, the type of bottle that somehow empties in the blink of an eye. Put a slight chill on it, pop the cork, and inhale its lively perfume: the floral fragrance and bright, juicy fruit—picture fresh-squeezed berries—are simply irresistible. On the palate, you’ll find a nimble frame and plush, silky tannins that make it dangerously gulpable. It has also been known to convert those who generally shy away from the Cabernet Franc grape, so please do be kind and share.
Domaine des Baumard’s Quarts de Chaume is renowned the world over as the greatest example of this small, 110 acre vineyard (of which Baumard owns 15), since 2011 recognized as the first official “Grand Cru” of the Loire Valley. The sweet wines from this subregion of the Côteaux de Layon are from vineyards planted along the southeastern stretch of the Layon river. The perfectly exposed, steeply terraced vineyards allow the Chenin Blanc grape to ripen perfectly in most years, often enriched by the development of botryitis. Always long-lived, in great vintages Quarts de Chaume can be almost immortal, improving for decades.
The 2018 Chateau de Beaucastel red has an elegant deep ruby-red colour. The powerful and elegant nose offers superb notes of spices, cherries and cocoa. Elegantly and perfectly balanced, the mouth reveals a beautiful dense structure with fine tannins and complex aromas of red fruit such as blackcurrants and floral notes. The finish is very long and harmonious. A very sophisticated wine, signature of Beaucastel’s style.
Glides along, offering an alluring mix of dense, dark blueberry, melted black licorice, grippy loamy earth and tannins that give the flavors traction. Impressive on the finish. This will appeal to those who like to chew on their reds. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.
Domaine de Beaurenard’s flagship wine is a quintessential blend, reflecting all the diversity of the terroir and the perfect synergy that exists between the soils and the grapes. It offers a supple and refined texture associated with a delicate aromatic palette that is the result of a constant quest for freshness.
The embodiment of the Beaurenard style, with perfect balance between fruit and spice. Fragrantly aromatic native herbs intermingle with pure, sumptuous fruit.
This bright and lively Pinot Blanc weighs in at approximately 13% alcohol, with notes of white flowers, pear, tangerine and wet stones on the nose. It finishes with clean, mineral notes and great complexity.
This gorgeous Pinot Gris is a modest 12.5% alcohol yet the silky-satiny texture and fresh, floral aromatics, due to extended skin contact, belie the low alcohol. The grapes, farmed biodynamically. were macerated for 12-18 hours before being pressed off the skins. The resulting wine has a faint blush or pale copper shade due to the pink hue of the Pinot Gris grape. This is a beautiful wine, with hints of strawberry, citrus and lemon peel. Substantial enough to stand up to most game, it's fresh enough to compare to a summer rosé.
The wild black cherry and wild raspberry play an encore on the palate with that lingering cinnamon note plus a granite-like minerality. There is also a nice touch of acidity which achieves excellent balance. Complex and medium-bold body with a medium touch of tannin from the oak aging. It has a medium-long lingering finish and invites for another sip.
The aromatics jump out of the glass, with enticing cherry pie, currant, pomegranate, lavendar and licorice layers. On the palate, the currant flavors are repeated, alongside elements of plum, cranberry, sandalwood and white pepper spice. On the finish, this wine displays an excellent balance between the acid tannins, which should lend this wine nice staying power.
Shebang! is the appealing project of Morgan Twain Peterson, son of the long-time Ravenswood winemaker Joel Peterson. His objective is to fashion innovative, old vine cuvees that satisfy the most demanding wine enthusiasts.
Bright red cherries, tobacco, licorice, fennel and spices are layered together beautifully in this Zinfandel Old-Vine. This is a decidedly elegant, restrained Zinfandel that nevertheless has serious personality.
Dense, dark garnet color. Aromas of juicy dark fruit, moist soil, vanilla and cacao burst out of the glass. The palate is so rich that it can almost be chewed on. Flavors of pie filling, plum, cured meats and root beer enliven the senses. This wine has structural integrity with great depth. The balanced acidity leads to a provocatively supple finish.
Deep scarlet color; out of the gate aromas of cinnamon, cranberry and a hint of ginger tease for a taste. The palate turns into Christmas in the mouth; sweet baking spices and tart berries, even a hint of roasted meat. Throughout the experience a plush weight fills the mouth. The merging of flavors, viscosity and a lively acidity round out the long, sinuous finish.
This Pinot Noir is sourced from benchland vineyards on the Sonoma Coast, where valley floor transitions to foothills. These vines produce concentrated and intense fruit that results in an elegantly balanced Pinot Noir with depth and character. Grapes were primarily harvested from the Sangiacomo Amaral Ranch Vineyard and were gently extracted during fermentation on native yeast. The wine was then aged for 7 months in 30% new French oak before bottling. A bright ruby color, this wine offers intense floral and raspberry aromas. In the mouth the wine has good intensity with darker earth flavors and bright raspberry fruit. Fine tannins add structure and balance to a long finish.
This Sauvignon Blanc is the result of its unique terroir, displaying typical characteristic of a cool climate coastal Sauvignon Blanc. Elegant and racy, it follows in the quality footsteps of its award-winning predecessors. Enjoy its Old World minerality and length with hints of New World fruit and texture on the undertones making this a wine expressive of its origin ahead of the pungent tropical aromas that the varietal is often associated with. Inspired by freshness best enjoyed at temperatures 2-3 degrees higher than lighter bodied, fruity white wines.
